"The Power of Words" - Poem
By Hannah Polizzi, Age 14
St. Francis De Sales School
Sherman Oaks, CA
Teacher: Kim Butler

Jan 06, 2006

Don’t call me immature,
teach me how to grow up a little.
If you call me worthless,
I believe I have no value.
Don’t call me mean,
show me how to be pleasant.
If you think I’m a liar,
give me a chance to tell the truth.
Don’t call me a loser,
help me to be a winner.
When you call me stupid,
I have no desire to educate myself.
Don’t call me untalented,
instead, push me to succeed.
If you don’t believe in me,
how will I ever believe in myself?

Words are strong.
Used as weapons,
they create a powerful impact.
Words are hurtful.
Used as a crutch,
they make you feel even worse.
Words have the ability
to do anything to anyone.
No one can take away
the power of words,
but everyone can fight
the power of words.
