"No Name-Calling Poem" - Poem By Brianna Barnett, Age 13 St. Francis School Goshen, KY Teacher: Jessica Leader
Jan 06, 2006
It’s eight o’clock on Monday
As our class walks down the hall
When suddenly the “geeky” boy
Stumbles, trips, and falls
“You’re such a loser,” I taunt
As the rest of them all laugh
And the boy gets to his feet
And alone he walks to math
Math begins and the “dumb blonde” girl
Stands puzzled at the board
“For the dumbest blonde,” I tease and laugh
“You get the reward.”
In gym class as the “girly girls”
Pathetically try to climb the ropes
One slides right off, embarrassed
And we all call her a dope.
We finally eat lunch
And a kid spills all his food
I pronounce him a “stupid klutz”
People should try to exclude
The dull school day drags on and on
And last period arrives
And everyone can’t wait to go home
Where they won’t be criticized
But right at that moment
Like a loud wake-up call
I am called up to the board
And I trip and fall
Then, suddenly, it hit me
I was just the same
As the dork, or loser
Or the guy I had called lame.
We are all different,
But a lot is still the same
And one of our many similarities is
We hate to be called names.
So for all of you who read this
I hope you try to change
The way that you treat others
And stop calling names.
