Creative Expression Contest Honorable Mention 2006
"Fat" - Poem By Rachel Gannon, Age 13 St. Cecilia School Houston, TX Teacher: Mary Solomon
Jan 06, 2006
Such an UGLY word.
FAT
I’m not, really,
Well, maybe a little,
But not really
FAT.
Why are you so
THIN?
Is being skinny what makes you so
MEAN?
If so I’m glad I’m NOT.
Why do you HATE me?
Why do you call me names?
FATTY
PIG
BLIMP
Why?
What did I do to you?
NOTHING!
Then WHY do you HATE me?
I’m not that DIFFERENT!
FAT
Such an ugly word,
With such horrible memories.
You FORGET about me later,
But I will always REMEMBER.
Because the more you tell me I’m
FAT,
The more I start to believe you.
Until,
Inside,
I am,
FAT.
FAT
Such an UGLY word
Such a MEAN word.
Such a CRUEL
Such a HATEFUL word.
Why?
WHY do you do this?
You say it’s all a JOKE,
But I don’t feel like LAUGHING.
More like CRYING.
Do you KNOW what you are doing?
FAT
Such an UGLY word.
Now
I
Am
FAT
Inside
Because of YOU.
